Magazine Analysis

Analysing the front cover of a magazine

The masthead of this magazine id called “Prep school” this was probably used to grab the reader’s attention as they may have children of their own starting school and want to read this to get some pointers about their child starting school. This may also engage readers due to the range of connotations the word has.  This magazine appears to be up to date as the date on the top of the page is the current year we are in. The font of the masthead is big so it is noticeable to readers and is also outlined in a lime green colour to make the words stand out more.

The masthead is also written in capital letters which also helps the magazine stand out more. Below the masthead reads “Reflecting the best in the prep and junior school world” this heading is eye catching to parents as it shows the magazine to be precise and full of information to prove this heading so parents will want to read it.

At the top left hand corner of the magazine there is a logo reading “Satips” and this makes the reader presume that these are the people/company who have published the magazine as there is no other information to suggest otherwise. This magazine could be one that is intended for schools nation-wide, rather than just one in particular as nothing seems to be focusing on one individual school anywhere.

At the bottom of the magazine cover is the word “Leadership” this word comes across as striking and important to the reader as it is an interesting subject to read about and makes the school(s) seem more interesting to read about as the magazine cover is promoting it about the school(s).

The image on the cover shows two young boys in uniform running, they may perhaps be running to school and this shows how intrigued they are and excited to get there. Readers will also be able to picture or relate to perhaps what their children may look like in this or any type of uniform similar to it.
The layout of the magazine consists of the masthead situated on the skyline, the main central image, cover lines along the bottom and the date stated along the top.
